Nametags™ is an assembly program for students in grades 3-12, that empowers students to choose the labels, or “Nametags,” they wear. Presenters with disabilities, use their own inspirational life stories to illustrate that “It’s not what happens to you. It’s what you do with what happens to you,” a line that students chant at intervals throughout the program. This motto illustrates that while no one is free of struggle, we have the opportunity to choose how we react to our challenges.
This interactive program provides students with simple lessons about how to make tough choices. In addition, to encouraging personal resilience, Nametags reinforces the importance of creating a community in which differences become indications of potential genius, instead of dividing lines. No matter what challenges they face, students, and faculty alike will leave the Nametags presentation with purpose, strategy, and inspiration.
